MEET YOUR Doula

Natalie Scantlebury

“In 2014–2015, I immersed myself in psychology, seeking to understand the subconscious mind and how past trauma shapes our thoughts and bodies. I recognized hidden parts of myself—dormant due to past wounds—and felt a deep urge to heal. Through self-work, I learned to navigate my fears, break through mental and physical blockages, and access my true strength. Now, working with women and families during such a vulnerable time, I integrate this understanding into my support, sharing insights when appropriate to help others step into their own power and resilience.”

Why Birth Work:

I grew up surrounded by strong women and was introduced to childcare at a young age. While I explored many career paths, I always felt drawn to working with women and children. I wanted to make a meaningful impact and create positive change in the world. Birth work gives me the opportunity to do just that—providing purposeful, life-changing support and encouraging women to embrace their strength, even when the journey feels challenging or impossible.

Favourite Thing About Birth:

When the baby emerges, the oxytocin is flowing and there’s an overwhelming amount of emotions in the room. It’s the “She did it!” moment that gets me every time; someone puts onions in my eyes or something.

Least Favourite Thing About Birth:

Sad and unfortunate birth and postpartum outcomes that are caused by medical bias, lack of personalized quality care and traditional non evidence based procedures.

My Story

About my background and why I started birth work.

When I moved from Toronto to the U.S. in 2021 to start a family, I quickly realized how different maternal healthcare was. Many of the birth stories I heard were discouraging, making me question what my own experience might be like. Determined to find a better way, I explored positive birth experiences and discovered a key factor—strong support teams, often including a doula.

This realization led me to train with BEST Doula Training, where I learned about the maternal health crisis in the U.S., especially for Black women. Fueled by a passion to create change, I founded Loops & Kisses LLC Doula Services to provide holistic, informed, and compassionate support—helping families navigate pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with confidence and care.
